Welcome to Mrs. Evans’ Class.
Below you will find general information about our day to day schedule. I’m excited to start another year at Old Bridge Elementary School and for a full year of learning together. I have been at Old Bridge since it opened in 1995. I have taught both fourth and fifth grade at Old Bridge. I have 2 sons. One has graduated from college and is a Civics teacher in the county and my other son is a junior at Christopher Newport University. I love fifth grade and can’t wait to meet each of you! Fifth grade is the best!

Here's what we're learning:
Reading: As a class we're reading the book, Wonder. It is a wonderful book about accepting who you are, with all of your strengths and weaknesses. When this book is complete, we will be in guided reading groups based on each student's instructional reading level.
Written Language: We are personalizing our writing journals with special pictures. We started our first writing unit of personal narrative. We write everyday.
Math: We reviewed place value of whole numbers and adding and subtracting whole numbers. We will work on place value of decimals and rounding of decimals. Our first unit test will be the week of September 26th. Our next unit will be multiplication and division of whole numbers.
Science: Our first unit will be living systems which will begin around interim time.
Social Studies: We are reviewing maps and globes. Our next units will be Mexico, Canada, Central America and the Caribbean Islands. Next week we begin a research project with our librarian. Each student will pick a country or province to research. Then they will create an inspiration web about the information.
